Every mission has bonus objectives and unless you are a tactical mastermind you probably won't complete them on the first try. Wouldn't this hurt replayability? Yes and no. Chess would not be the same game if you could choose your own pieces - why not make every piece a queen? Think of it more like chess than a RPG with statistical approach to combat. Also each mission has been carefully designed around the characters and their limitations. Each character has a different set of abilities which complement each other nicely. The battles are centered around clever use of abilities at the right time rather than statistics. The characters are predefined because it makes the tactical battles more interesting. The characters are predefined at the start of the game but they can learn new abilities and upgrade equipment and abilities using the power gems rewarded by completing missions. ![]()
